Industrial Design (B.Des & M.Des..)

Industrial Design (IND) teaches students the design process with critical thinking, inclusive approach and human-centered design methods to create well-conceived and relevant products and systems that make everyday tasks easier and more enjoyable to use. From developing ideas by sketching, drawing, model making and finally prototyping, the students are exposed to a wide range of materials and processes to enable them to produce high-quality products. Furthermore, students are involved in a wide range of product assignments covering simple products to complex and sophisticated products for the medical, transportation, furniture and daily house-hold product areas.

Communication Design (B.Des & M.Des)

The Communication Design (CND) students learn creative as well as analytical approaches to designing a wide array of communication material ranging from the traditional books and posters, logos and branding collaterals to digital media such as websites, apps, and other interactive explorations. From media explorations, ideations of concepts to final print quality outputs are an inherent part of the learning process. The CD students can work in fields as diverse as publication, packaging, animation, film, photography as well as digital platforms and areas.

Animation industry is growing in India at such a rapid pace that shortage of trained manpower is felt throughout. It needs thinking minds along with toned up skills. Animation and Film Making at DJAD calibrates the skills of the students and prepares them for sectors such as Advertisement Industry, Film-Making including Cartoons, Medical Sciences, and Multimedia etc. Ever since the world-wide-web has enveloped the globe, the Advertisement sector has grown, moving out from the Television and such medium. Animation and Film Making is having a global presence through the internet.

This domain is an excellent innovative platform offered by DJAD to learn to design the available space efficiently based on various themes including the furniture. The program helps students to understand human requirements through theory via sessions on anthropometrics and ergonomics and in practice through in-class experiences, site visits, case studies and interactions with craftsmen at various phases in the course.

Library & Resource Centre


The library cum resource centre houses not only well-selected books but also films, music, digital resources and product samples for reference.

Media Lab



DJAD’s state-of-the-art media lab facilitates high-quality film projects and sound recording and mixing.

Workshops



The academy has well-equipped workshops for students’ use. These dedicated workshops help student in developing multi-sensory exclusive experiences.

Studios



Unlike the normal classrooms, the studios are flexibly set up according to the design learning requirement, which would give students the ambiance to think and act creatively.

Learning Culture

Learning Design at DJAD is an around the clock process and the studios and workshops function accordingly. The intensity of learning makes it necessary for the students to stay on the campus. Active participation is expected from each student in Film Club, Reading club, Weekend lectures and many cultural activities which take place regularly in the campus. Students are encouraged to participate in competitions related to design, and details of which will be shared with the students from time to time. Learning in the academy occurs in both structured and in non-structured ways. Potential class projects are regularly considered for design registration or patent application, as the case may be.Students regularly interact with the industry as part of the curricular activities. During the visits, the students get the opportunity to experience their work and environments. Coimbatore, apart from LMW, houses several small and medium scale industries where the students are regularly taken for tours and research.

Competitions

Studio-Industrial visits

DJAD regularly arranges visits to Studios and Industries as part of the curricular activities. As part of the Design Yatra, students get the opportunity to visit creative studios to experience their work and environments. Some of the leading studios and industries visited are Icarus Design, Foley Design, Elephant Design, Lemon Design, Vaibhav Studio, Kirloskar, TTK, Dovetail furniture, etc.
